Websters New World desk dictionary, 2nd edition, defines the following as:
Principle:
1. a fundamental truth, law, etc. upon which others are based.
2. (a) rule of conduct (b) adherence to such rules; integrity
3. a basic part
4 (a) the scientific law explaining a natural action (b) the method of a things operation
So the question arises....Where do principles come from? Well, that is easy. It is set up in the Bible, known as the Ten Commandments. These are the fundamental truths for all peoples regardless of race, color. religion or locality, region or whatever. What are the Ten Commandments?---as set by God in the hands of Moses to his people the Jews before Christ? This is found in the Book of Exodus: 20. Check it out. In short they read as:
1. I am the Lord, your God. Thy shall have no other God before me.
2. Thy shall not make graven images in the form of heaven or earth, nor bow down and worship them
3. Thy shalt not take (use) the Lords name in vain
4.Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it Holy.
5.Honor your Mother and Father
6. You shall not commit murder
7. You shall not commit adultry
8.You shall not steal
9. You shall not give false testamony against thy neighbor
10. Thy shall not covet your neighbors house. This incluedes his wife, or anything that belongs to him.
These are givens that we are not supposed to question. In short they are Principles by which we should live. We are all human, with miserable failings and not one of us can live up to these principles no matter how we try. God realized that, and sent his son to make it easier to be accepted by him. With Jesus, the Jews no longer had to sacrifice with blood offerings. Jesus became that blood sacrifice. A new kingdom, Christianity was established to spread the word and a new testament was written based on Christ's life and teachings.
Ok, so what of the unprincipled principled? We who strive to be and do the right things? We acknowledge the Ten Commandments, but do we really try to live by them? All of them? Do we cast judgment on people? Certainly not!!!! That would be false witness....Are we guilty of falsehoods? No, not really....but that's not true either because we are not even totally honest with ourselves. Are we envious of our neighbors car or house? Not if we have better, but what of their perfect children? They are never dirty or do any wrong. I wish mine were that good. Or, mine are better than theirs. They are dirty little mealy-mouth slobs.
Of course I am not going to kill anyone....physically, but what about emotionally? or mentally? Mental and emotional death are rampant in this country, but yet we don't recognize it as a death. Instead it is labeled an illness. Have you slept with your best friends mate? Or thought about it? According to God it is the same thing. Do we spit out Gods name with four letter words when we hit our finger with the hammer, or are run off the road by a careless driver?
What about your Mother and Father. Do you remember them? in passing, or any other way?
What I am striving to accomplish is the fact that we are all unprincipled. We all fall short. Our nation, is falling short. Rome was once the greatest democracy of all times. It lasted (if I remember my world history correctly) only about 400 years before it self-destructed. Yes, the Roman congress went through what ours is presently muddling through. There was failure to reach decisions, and fighting between parties. There was greed and corruption. The peoples were taxed beyond
their means and yet it wasn't enough. The leaders were powerless to run any agenda through their congress. Sound familiar? History repeating itself. How long have we been a democracy? Let's see, since around 1792 when it all started, and it is now 2010. Hey!!!! Going on 300 years. Do you think that as a nation we will make it?
Excited!
